Introduction

 

Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) refers to the air quality within and around buildings and structures, especially as it relates to the health and comfort of building occupants. Understanding and controlling common pollutants indoors can help reduce your risk of indoor health concerns. Health effects from indoor air pollutants may be experienced soon after exposure or, possibly, years later.

Gas and respirable particulates in the air are the primary sources that contribute to poor IAQ. Sources can include inadequate ventilation, poorly maintained HVAC systems, wood and coal stoves, non-vented gas heaters, environmental tobacco smoke, vehicle exhaust emissions, building materials, carpeting, furniture, maintenance products, solvents, cleaning supplies etc. The actual concentrations of these pollutants can also be amplified by other external factors including poor ventilation, humidity, and temperature.

Next Sense Technologies made Indoor Air Quality Monitor, PAM-01, is a hand-held air quality monitor with microcontroller based design. It can detect indoor PM2.5 mass concentration, CO2 concentration, TVOC, temperature and related humidity and output real-time measurement. It comes with data logging facility and battery backup.

Optionally the PAM-01 also comes with a built-in Wi-Fi module, for continuous and online monitoring of IAQ index anytime and anywhere by data transmission to any server or a central display.

The PAM-01 is widely used for the purpose of Indoor air monitoring, Ventilation systems, Air purification systems in offices, industries and household.
